20s PLENTY FOR SMAWTHORNE - ROAD SAFTEY CAMPAIGN

20 MPH speed limit sign with text for Smawthorne.

Those familiar with the Smawthorne area understand it is a bustling hub for road traffic and pedestrians. A few years ago, we initiated a 20 mph speed limit campaign, but at that time, funding was unavailable. Today, we are revitalizing that campaign with renewed enthusiasm.

Smawthorne is home to a school, a children's nursery, a doctors' surgery, and many elderly residents—making it a place with numerous vulnerable individuals and children attempting to cross busy roads lined with parked vehicles.

To enhance safety, we will be circulating a petition advocating for a 20 mph speed limit on Smawthorne Lane and all connecting roads, including Joffre, Briggs Avenue, and Ashton Road. Additionally, we are urging the council to consider establishing a crossing on Smawthorne Lane near the shops, the doctors' office, the park entrance, and the nursery.

Your support is crucial. You don’t need to be a resident to lend your voice. If you previously supported the 20 mph speed limit campaign, please add your name to this new petition.
